Historic St. Mary’s City is a living history museum with outdoor exhibits and plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning. Explore over three hundred acres with walking trails. The museum also has a serene view of the St. Mary’s River.
The museum has four main outdoor exhibits: a Woodland Indian village, the “town center,” Maryland Dove (a tall wooden ship), and a tobacco plantation. Historical interpreters are dressed in 17th-century period clothing at the town center, Maryland Dove, and tobacco plantation when discussing the present day and the past. Hands-on opportunities include a printing press (a Franklin press), hearth cooking,
17th-century games, archery, weaving, simple navigation on a ship, knot tying, and more! The tobacco plantation also has livestock - heritage breed cows, chickens, and pigs and is the most popular with younger visitors.
